OHYEA: Folk Yeah! Festival in the Forest, Sept. 26-27
Annual Fall Arts Preview
5 brand-new events
With young women wearing wolf heads like baseball caps and pencil-thin men sporting acres of corduroy, the Folk Yeah! concerts always entertain– even if your eyes aren’t fixed on the stage. But for this show, the biggest festival Folk Yeah! has yet attempted, the real highlight will be the music. Taking over the entirety of Fernwood’s campground, where a stage will be erected under the redwoods, this two-day music gathering includes some of the most intriguing musicmakers in the nation right now.
The 19 scheduled acts include the warped one-man folk outfit Little Wings, the blistering blues rock trio The Entrance Band, the literate alt-country of the Silver Jews, the other-worldly Nico-meets-Beach-Boys duo Beach House and Megapuss, a collaboration between reigning indie music icon Devendra Banhart and Priestbird’s Greg Rogove. All proceeds will benefit the Big Sur Volunteer Fire Brigade, and for those still craving great music, the Henry Miller Library will host another show featuring Pegi Young and Bonnie “Prince” Billy that Sunday.
