Sound description: Originally from Memphis, Saxophonist and Flute player Charles Lloyd is Monterey County's most famous jazz artists, having been a resident of Big Sur for years. His 1966 Atlantic Records recording FOREST FLOWER-LIVE IN MONTEREY was a huge commercial success and the largest selling jazz recording of that time. The band was recorded live at the Monterey Jazz Festival and featured pianist Keith Jarrett, bassist Cecil McBee and drummer Jack DeJohnette. Lloyd experimental freeform style led him to tour with the Beach Boys in the 1970s.
