Sound description: After stints in the Los Angeles and San Francisco jazz scenes, pianist Dick Whittington moved to Monterey County in 1996. These days, Whittington performs at Carmel’s Cypress Inn Thursday through Saturday with a rotating group of guest musicians including Bruce Forman and Kenny Stahl. His 1992 CD, The Dick Whittington Trio In New York, finds the pianist tackling numbers by Mel Torme and Cole Porter. Meanwhile, the Whittington original “Judy’s Waltz” features fluid piano playing and stuttering drumbeats.
