Description

Sound description: Local bluesman John “Broadway” Tucker is the real deal. The son of a sharecropper, Tucker grew up on the blues drenched Mississippi Delta. A former member of the Army’s USO, the musician moved to the area after being stationed at Fort Ord in 1967. He cut his teeth as a blues performer playing gigs at Seaside’s now defunct Jimbo’s Show Lounge. Since those formative years at Jimbo’s, Tucker has evolved into a popular local performer playing everywhere from the Main Stage of the Monterey Bay Blues Festival to the Old Monterey Seafood and Music Festival. Internationally, the elder bluesman has a large fan base in Poland, where he tours with a band including Polish musicians like guitarist Leszek Cichonski. In 2006, Tucker joined the ranks of blues legends including Etta James and Charlie Musselwhite by being awarded the Monterey Bay Blues Festival’s “Artist of the Year.”
