Sound description: Formed in 1993, local blues band Red Beans & Rice is one of Monterey County’s most popular acts. The group led by guitarist/vocalist Gil Rubio has won Monterey County Weekly readers’ Best Band Award from 1996 to 2006. In 2004, Red Beans & Rice changed direction a bit by heading towards a more New Orleans based sound on their 2007 CD Hot ‘n’ Spicy.
