Sound description: Currently based in Oakland, Vermillion Lies are one of Monterey's best recent musical exports. (Luckily, they return often for homecoming shows at Monterey Live.) Led by sisters Zoe and Kim Boekbinder, Vermillion Lies play beautiful folk and piano ballads along with quirky theatrical numbers that nod to Tom Waits. Their superb 2006 CD Separated By Birth features numbers like the Billie Holiday sounding "No Good" and the folky "I Should Fly."
