The Monterey Amberjacks return to Sollecito Ballpark on Friday evening on a bit of a tear. On their way to a 5-2 start as of Wednesday’s games, manager Ciprano Garza’s squad reeled off four consecutive wins to start the season and have outscored opponents 50 to 22.
Both losses came on the road against the High Desert Yardbirds. But they recovered Wednesday to knock off the Bakersfield Train Robbers 4-2.
Last Thursday’s opener at home set the tone. Pitcher George Faue fanned 14 over 5 innings while the Amberjacks’ bats put together a 3-run first and 6-run second, coasting to a 15-2 win over Wasco. The next evening, Daniel Williams took the mound, striking out seven, allowing just one walk while benefiting from 7 Monterey run.
Seth Strong has provided power at the plate, with 2 home runs and 8 RBI. He’s hitting .292. James Prockish’s 2-run homer at High Desert got the Amberjacks back in contention in a 3-2. He has been the most productive hitter at .360 with 7 RBI. Ben Giland is swinging at a .333 clip and Steve Longo has driven in 7 to go with a .296 average.
The Amberjacks host Wasco on Friday (6:30pm), Saturday (6:30pm) and Sunday (4pm) at Sollecito Ballpark in Monterey.
