About 30 people gathered with popcorn, drinks and other snacks inside the Monterey County Republican headquarters on Tuesday, June 18. They watched Fox News to cheer on President Donald Trump’s 2020 re-election campaign kickoff announcement from Florida.

Between Trump's talking points, a handful of people shared chants with the crowd shown on TV, such as “build the wall!”

Others chastised local Democratic officials and suggested tweaking the president’s slogan, saying the U.S. needs to “Make California Great Again.”

Before the speech, half a dozen Trump supporters rallied outside the headquarters on Del Monte Avenue, holding signs and waving flags.

One man, who declined to give his name, laughed about how one driver “flipped me off as he drove by.”
