Postcards From Monterey County is a weekly, black-and-white photo feature highlighting life throughout the diverse communities of our region.
Annie Salleh has been fishing on Wharf 2 in Monterey for 43 years.
“I fish for the heck of it,” she says. “If I don’t exercise, I’ll croak.”
On June 14, Salleh was one of a dozen or so people fishing near the end of the wharf, trying to catch Spanish mackerel, sardines and smelt.
“I don’t eat the mackerel, but I eat salmon and I make all kinds of stuff with it, like salmon quiche,” she says. “Jack Smelt has no flavor.”
