"I've been working here for 15 years and for 15 years they've been bugging me to go to church, but I ain't ready to go yet," says Ollian T. Macklin, the groundskeeper for Greater Victory Temple church in Seaside.

Macklin, 85, was born in Kentucky and has lived in Seaside since 1961. Aside from the church, he also works as a landscape gardener at homes in Seaside and Del Rey Oaks, traveling in his aging blue Chevrolet pickup truck full of tools.

"The best advice my mama ever told me was to mind my own business, get my education and be somebody," he says while talking a break from watering the new grass at the church. "I am Ollian and I am somebody!"
