Like any community, Monterey County has its share of politics and breaking news that affects the lives of its residents.

This past year saw a grassroots protest against disgraced Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio in September, and the second-annual Women’s March as hundreds descended on CSU Monterey Bay to speak out against inequality.

In January, the local protest and peace movement lost a longtime vocal member in Darby Worth who passed away at her Carmel Valley home.

As the national conversation continued about school shootings and arming teachers, the community of Seaside was in the crosshairs in March after high school teacher and reserve police officer Dennis Alexander accidentally fired his gun in class and the ricocheted bullet injured a student.
