Monterey County is often revered for its iconic beauty, from scenes of Highway 1 winding through Big Sur, lettuce fields sprawling toward the mountains in the Salinas Valley, the fishing industry of Fisherman’s Wharf and Moss Landing.
Those scenes are part of 2018 in feature images, reflecting lots of color around the county. People woke up in the middle of the night in January to gaze at the sky and see the orange glow of a super blood moon lunar eclipse. Twelve months later, spectators gathered along the coast to see another natural wonder as a giant swell slammed into the Central Coast, bringing out big wave surfers to Carmel Point.
People also gathered to watch favorite annual events, like the California Rodeo Salinas in July and the wild rides of Monterey Car Week.
In the final weeks of the year, we will be showcasing the year in photos. This collection shows off standout feature moments; the best of portrait photography and news images will follow.
