As far as project partnerships go, MY TOWN might be the most ambitious crossover event since the Avengers movies. Featuring exhibits from MY Museum, First 5 Monterey County, Salinas Public Library, TAMC, CSUMB and Hijos del Sol, this intricate and interactive landscape packs a creative and practical punch. Here, young patrons are encouraged to play pretend in a town of their own making. They’ll learn to navigate with bikes and car costumes, buy and sell toy produce at a miniature farmers market and visit a real pop-up library with 140-plus books. At craft stations and construction zones, they can create with different types of materials. Outside, they’ll explore the geography of Monterey Bay in play areas that evoke coast and farmland. All this—entirely free, for both children and adults. The museum celebrated its opening during First Friday festivities on June 7, and stays open through July 21. Hours are 10am-7pm Thursdays, 10am-5pm Fridays and Saturdays, and 11am-5pm Sundays.
