In the early 1900’s the Bixby family would invite ranch-hands from Mexico, Belgium, Germany and Japan to gather at their old adobe ranch house to celebrate Christmas Eve by sharing their different traditions. In his farewell concert director Jeff Green tells the story with seasonal music based on the novel “Christmas Eve at Rancho Los Alamitos” by Katherine Bixby Hotchkis. The concert features German carols and traditional Mexican pieces. A second show follows at the Santa Catalina School, where the Monterey Peninsula Choral Society partners with the Salinas High School a Cappella Choir to bring this tale of diversity and understanding to life.
8pm. Carmel Mission Basilica and Museum, 3080 Rio Rd., $20/general; $15/student. 645-4728.
