In the old days, priests used Taiko drumming to dispel evil spirits and insects from rice fields. Now, this japanese art can be used to get tenants kicked out of their apartments. Luckily, for San Jose Taiko, they've impressed and mesmerized audiences for over 30 years. The art form joins rhythms like African, Balinese, Latin and jazz. The resulting sound is exciting and true to the Asian soul of America. [PW]
