Who needs American Idol? Monterey County has its own talent and performance showcase and it happens every second Friday of the month (except for this month, where it’s the first Friday). It was started by dancer and choreographer Deanna Ross as a venue for the community to share its music, poetry, dance, comedy, singing, any artistic endeavor. It’s free, it’s live, it’s us--in all our burgeoning talent, fighting stage fright, honing ideas and sharing feedback. Folks can sign up for a 15-minute featured performance slot or a 5-minute open mic before the shows, where audience and performer are interchangeable. [WR]
