Santa and Mrs. Claus arrive from the North Pole by helicopter at Carmel Valley Airfield after 10:30am and launch this area’s popular holiday parade through Carmel Valley Village. The parade will conclude at the Community Center Hall on Ford Road where Santa will receive children with their Christmas lists. In the spirit of Dennis the Menace’s creator, the late Hank Ketchum, local cartoonist Bill Bates will unveil his own drawing, which will become the perpetual image of this annual event. Bates will also serve as Grand Marshall of the parade. This colorful and festive Village tradition was begun by private pilots when the former airfield was open to fixed-wing aircraft. Since the airfield closed a few years ago, Santa has been making the trip by helicopter. Live music will be provided during the parade and at the party by Nick Williams Dixieland Quartet, and hot dogs, hamburgers, nachos and drinks will be available. Village shops and galleries will remain open during the activities. Santa’s exact arrival time is subject to weather. [SL]
