Night six of the Monterey International Film Week brings the classic cinema of two famous European directors, Federico Fellini and Stanley Kubrick. Fellini’s swan song, La Dolce Vita, tells the story of a reporter named Marcello as he struggles to find a place he can call home. He is torn between the sexuality of Rome's upper-class social scene or building a worthwhile life. Following Fellini’s Italian masterpiece is Kubrick’s 1964 epic of a world embroiled in pre-apocalyptic fear. The dark comedy, Dr. Strangelove, stars Peter Sellers as a crazy general who begins a countdown to a holocaust that a war room of politicians and generals go berserk trying to stop. [NC]
