Leave it to a social-issue artist of Kira Corser's caliber to ask something like this: "With divorce haunting half of our relationships—and scarring so many people permanently—why don't we look at it any more deeply through the illuminating lens of earnest art?" Here's what she sees: “A Bed of Fragile Opposites,” covered with broken mirrors as beautiful as they are dangerous, reflecting images of diverse lovers all over the surrounding walls. Paintings, photography, a video with original music by Laura Dare and painted silks round out the exhibit; live music by La Campanella, a wedding waltz performance, grub from Chef Todd Food Concepts and talks by the artist and the Steinbeck Center's curator accompany the installation for tonight's opening reception. Meanwhile, wedding cake is served and wedding attire is encouraged. The exhibit runs through July 6. [MCA]
6-8pm/Friday reception; 10am-5pm/every day thereafter. National Steinbeck Center, 1 Main St., Salinas. Free/Fri reception (no host wine bar); free with museum admission afterwards: $10.95/adults; discounts for children and seniors. 831-775-4721. http://www.steinbeck.org.
