Jambalaya Jubilee's TELL Performance at Carl Cherry

Singer/songwriter Laura Dare closes out the month-long Jambalaya Jubilee with a stirring performance weekend called "TELL." Her bluesy songs marry sparse but confident arrangements and her hope-through-hurt voice that recalls Bonnie Raitt and Loretta Lynn. She reaches deep inside on "Days LIke These" ("Days like these/ when I feel so broken/ I can barely breathe/ somehow I stay the course/ to my own surprise") and her working-girl country twang on "Let Love Just Hang Around" adds a touch of rural wistfulness to her dreams of escape with her "baby." This is a rousing and bittersweet swan song of the Jambalaya Jubilee's artistic showcases. Luckily, there are three dates to catch it before it disappears into the artistic ether. [WR]
