More than one-third of Steinbeck's work is set in Mexico or features characters of Mexican-descent. The 28th Steinbeck Festival celebrates Steinbeck's relationship with Mexico with a four-day program of film, music, art, dance, lectures and events. Highlights of this year's festival include historical tours of Cannery Row, Tortilla Flat, Ed Rickett's Lab, and Oldtown Salinas. Maya Cinemas joins the celebration by featuring film adaptations of Steinbeck's books. Lectures introduce the public to Mexico's influence on Steinbeck, traditional healing practices of Mexico, the history of the Mexican Revolution, and much more. (See Art story.) [KC]
