The Western Stage wraps up its 2008 season with the classic My Fair Lady, based on George Bernard Shaw’s celebrated play, Pygmalion. The musical follows the transformation of Eliza Doolittle from Cockney flower seller to a lady of high society---requiring her to learn to speak and carry herself like a duchess. To fulfill her new role, Eliza must tolerate impoliteness from her rigid tutor, linguistics professor Henry Higgins He insists she chant “the rain in Spain stays mainly on the plains” persistently until her Cockney tongue forms softer vowels. The Tony award winning musical received multiple Tony Awards during its two decade run on Broadway.
