This momentous gathering of Salinas civic leaders, art community folk, patrons, tourism professionals, students, citizens and, of course, artists, is designed to focus Salinas' artistic vision. It's a town hall meeting, basically, to marshall the community's artistic resources as it relates to schools and education, tourism and commerce, and civic pride. The funding, scope and duties of the Salinas Arts Council is on the agenda; Mayor Dennis Donohue, Steinbeck Center Director Steve Hoffman, and local educator Laurie Myers will speak; the new Cantus choral group will sing; and, most importantly, the community will be heard in "focused conversation."
7pm. Performing Arts Center of the Steinbeck Institute of Art and Culture (formerly Sherwood Hall), 940 N. Main St., Salinas. Free. 594-1799 or 758-7351.
