This 68-year-old Russian folk dancing company, founded by the late choreographer Igor Moiseyev, toured America throughout the Cold War and into the 21st century. Now they are back with traditional and new acts. As can be expected by one of the largest dance companies in the world (complete with its own orchestra and over 200 dancers) the dancers are polished pros, and many are trained in ballet. Decked out in lavish costumes that run the gamut from traditional Russian folk garb to smartly cut naval uniforms, the huge dance numbers wow the eye as each dancer moves perfectly on cue, creating a vibrant, colorful mass of movement. Expect a night of traditional Russian folk dancing (lots of leaping) with a sprinkling of the more complicated ballet steps thrown in. [EM]
