Stephen Sondheim's 1962 light-classical Roman farce, inspired by the plays of Plautus, has become a favorite diversion to heavier Greek tragedies (no one gouges their eyes out and wanders in exile in this number). It centers on a clever slave, Pseudolus, and his machinations to win freedom by delivering to his rich, young master the courtesan (call girl, basically) of his dreams. Farce, puns and vaudeville keep audiences rolling. Sharp little jabs at class conflict provide something to ponder. The Stevenson School Performing Arts production will delight more than just the parents of the performers.
7:30pm. Robert Louis Stevenson School, 3152 Forest Lake Rd., Pebble Beach. $10/adults; $5/students, seniors, military, teachers. 625-8389.
