A group of CSUMB art students called the Artists' Collective have organized this sprawling, inclusive art happening on campus to rope together the school, community and the arts scene in Monterey County. And they're doing it with student-like abandon. This thing includes paintings, sculpture, photographs, digital art, interactive "living art" and animation--mostly in the contemporary, modern and abstract vein. Then there's the Mardi Gras theme, drinks and organic appetizers, Black History Month art, live media gallery, tattoo art, recycled clothing swap, four DJs with video projection, live music by Slices of Home, the Moongerms, We Are the Pilots and Jessica Marks, and a Nicole Ricci fashion show to top it all off. This is an ambitious show that, on paper, sounds astounding, and these students get major props for devising such a thing. They make the future of the local art scene look promising indeed. [WR]
