Hélène Wickett, the Bay Area concert pianist with an international reputation, previews her Carnegie Hall debut recital in Carmel today. Of the woman acclaimed in the major cities of Europe and the Americas the Boston Globe wrote, "Here was playing so concentrated and direct, so disquietingly accurate in aiming straight for the soul that, while it lasted, the rest of the world might well have ceased to exist." Wickett’s ambitious program includes celebrated works by Beethoven, Brahms and Ravel, and the rarely heard Sonata by Elliott Carter. In addition to her vast solo repertoire, Wickett plays no less than seventy concertos with orchestras, and has been the dedicatee of new works by a half dozen major 20th century composers. [SM]
