Much of what we know about the literature of other cultures comes from the curiosity, diligence and sharing nature of people like Bill Porter, aka Red Pine. He has translated and edited Chinese poetry and spiritual text into English for decades—not an easy task with such a nuanced language. His translations include The Zen Teachings of Bodhidharma, The Poems of Cold Mountain and The Mountain Poems of Stonehouse, 300 poems on Zen hermit living that kyotojournal.org calls “a tough-spirited book of enlightened free verse.” Porter, whose pen name is Red Pine, speaks, reads and presents a slideshow this evening .
7pm. Henry Miller Library, South of Nepenthe restaurant, Hwy 1, 667-2574 . http://www.henrymiller.org.
