"Spangalang at Sly McFly's" sounds like a contender for the funkiest catchphrase of 2008. Actually, Spangalang is a Bay Area band that started out in the early '80s playing R&B, jazz and pop music. Later, leader Tony Lindsay hooked up with a fellow Bay Area resident by the name of Carlos Santana, sharing singing and co-writing duties on the Latino star's 1992 Milagro album to the award-hogging, 1999 roaring comeback album Supernatural on through to 2004. During that time Lindsay kept Spangalang going as his own thing and dropped guest vocals on the 1998 album of militant Cali rapper Paris. Lindsay brings Spangalang back its early roots of kickin' good jams--originals and covers like Al Green and Al Jarreau--in intimate spots like Sly's.
