Daniel Del Pino is one of the leading pianists in Spain. He studied with masters like Julian Lopez-Gimeno and Joaquin Achucarro and has gone on to perform across the globe with the best orchestras, symphonies and soloists, winning armfuls of awards in his wake (one with the intriguing name of "Grand Prize from Her Majesty Princess Lalla Meriem"). Monterey Symphony's music director Max Bragado-Darman conducts this performance of Del Pino's prodigious talent with the storied symphony in a concert program that includes Mendelssohn's Herbrides Overture, Chopin's Piano Concerto No.2 and Beethoven's "Eroica" Symphony. The three performances (one at Sherwood Hall in Salinas, two at Sunset Center in Carmel) are dedicated to Bragado's daughter-in-law, the late dancer Jennifer Alexander, who died on Dec. 2, 2007. [WR]
