The best local high school jazz players have been assembled. Chosen by top jazz clinicians, they come from nine Monterey County schools. On the eve of the Monterey Jazz Festival All-Star Band's 20th annual tour of Japan, they drop in on the National Steinbeck Center for a proper send-off: a concert, joined by the Honor Vocal Jazz Ensemble. In Japan, one tour stop is Monterey's sister city of Nanao; another is the Monterey Jazz Festival concert in Noto. [WR]
