They say the hardest thing about making a film is getting it shown. However, for seven film students from USC, that is no longer a problem as tonight the Forest Theater Guild finishes up their summer entertainment in the forest with a night of short student films. The F.T. Renner Annual Student Short Film Festival inhabits the forest with a wide variety of narrative and documentary shorts, ranging from lighthearted pieces to heavy dramas. Pulled from the 2006-2008 school years, the films average 15 minutes and include stories about a human lie detector, a musical mystery, the war in Iraq and more. Support young filmmakers and the Forest Theater Guildand by feasting on good old fashioned chicken barbecue, sipping Monterey wines and seeing stories unfold under the stars. [MA]
6:30pm/barbecue; 8:15pm/films start. Outdoor Forest Theater, Santa Rita and Mountain View, Carmel. $25. 626-1681. http://www.foresttheaterguild.org.
