Travelers come and go through our cozy and manageable airport all day and night. But if they don't go upstairs to the mezzanine and upper levels of the terminal building, they miss out on a pretty significant display of local art titled Art and the Army. It's a 36-year retrospective of sculpture, photographs, pottery, glass works, painting and mixed media from Fort Ord soldiers (1960-1996) who enrolled in art programs offered by the Department of Defense. Sponsored by the Fort Ord Museum and Archive, the artistry varies from the humble to the award-winning, and it's a real find--if you're not too rushed.
24 hours. Monterey Peninsula Airport, Highway 68 and Olmstead Road, Monterey. Free. 624-7910, 648-7000.
