Founded in 1943 in Knoxville, TN, near the site where the U.S. secretly developed the atomic bomb during World War II, the Oak Ridge Boys pioneered a gospel-meets-rock sound unique to the era. Three decades and a 30-member turnover later, the quartet added to that signature sound a country twang that earned them two Grammys and four Country Music Association Awards and made them a household name with numbers like “Elvira”. Along with Western cowboy togs and handlebar moustaches, they’re famous for delivering energetic, upbeat stage shows.
5pm and 8:30pm. Golden State Theatre, 417 Alvarado St., Monterey. $75, $95, $125. 372-4555. http://www.goldenstatetheatre.com.
