The National Steinbeck center re-ignites Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451 with a month-long spree of inventive events. Kicking things off is "Words on Fire," a night at the Steinbeck Center on March 3 where, outside, Western Stage actors perform renditions of characters from the book. Inside, at “fire-lit” reading circles, attendees and guests, like Salinas’ Mayor Donohue, read passages from books they would rescue if firefighters were tasked with burning books as in Bradbury’s novel (attendees are encouraged to bring their “rescue books” and a flashlight). Also inside, CSUMB art students bring to life a book-based installation called Fahrenheit 451: Walking Through the Book. Check out the website for the full schedule of upcoming events. [EM]
6:30-8:30pm. National Steinbeck Center, 1 Main St., Salinas. Free. 775-4721. http://www.steinbeck.org.
