It's well worth it to show up to work on Monday bleary-eyed and yawning to catch this late-night airing of two seminal '60s concert films on KQED. The first follows Bob Dylan over three years' worth of performances at the Newport Folk Festival, during which the fiery singer-songwriter expands his musical style so quickly as to stun the hardcore folk audience when he "goes electric." The second needs no introduction but this: Hendrix, Joplin, The Who, Otis, Simon and Garfunkel, Hugh Masekela, the Mama and the Papas, Eric Burden and the Animals, Jefferson Airplane, etc. This abridged version of D.A. Pennebaker's 1967 Monterey Pop Festival documentary shows why that concert was The Moment in '60s music.
Midnight/Bob Dylan; 1:30am/Monterey Pop. Television, broadcast, cable or satellite, Monterey County. Free. http://www.kqed.org.
