The newly renovated Splash Zone departs from the traditional aquarium experience with three new interactive exhibits specifically designed for families. At the Rugged Rocky Shore, kids can see blackfooted penguins and tide demonstrations with sea stars and clingfish. In the expanded touch pool, they can explore sea stars, abalones, sea urchins, kelp crabs, snails, sponges, and sea cucumbers. The three-story-high massive kelp columns in the Enchanted Kelp Forest can be viewed from above, below, and inside-via a crawl through tunnel. And children will love observing pharaoh cuttlefish, moray eels, and splendid and spotted eels in the Coral Reef Kingdom. Other notable additions include the intriguing leafy and weedy sea dragon and potbelly sea horses. Most exhibits are bilingual. [EM]
