A lot of books have been read within the walls of the Pacific Grove library over the last 100 years. The centennial celebration kicks off today with period-era banjo and fiddle music by Ann Downs, all-ages magic by Santa Cruz's The Blindini and a giant sheet cake made by Harry the Baker. Prizes for the "Why I Love My Library"—a contest for written or drawn entries—include gift certificates to Tessuti Zoo, The Works and I'm Puzzled. It that isn't enough, Erin Gray and Chris Bohrman sing spontaneous period songs during cake time. [NC]
1pm/banjo and fiddle music, 2pm/magic show; 3pm/cake and prizes. Pacific Grove Public Library, 550 Central Ave., Pacific Grove. Free. 648-5760.
