Residents keep on pedaling against pollution as the 14th Annual Monterey County Bike Week continues this week through Sunday. Thursday is Bike to School and Bike to Work Day with a free breakfast fuel-up (call 775-0903 for details and participating restaurants.) Learn about bicycling safety and maintenance and enter a raffle to win a bike on Saturday 10 to 12am at the Smart Bicycling Workshop in Salinas at Sherwood Hall, 950 North Main Street. A barbecue and raffle follow Sunday's Family Mountain Biking outing from 10am to 2pm. The fun for the family ride is at Toro Park on Highway 68 and includes an obstacle course for the courageous rider. Participants need to bring their bicycle and helmet for this ride. Register online for a $1000 prize and one local employer wins an award for having the most riders cycling to work for the week. [RC]
