Two rockin, high-energy bands descend the steps and then mount the stage at Jose's. North S.F. Bay area's Poor Man's Whiskey is an up-and-coming eclectic bluegrass/funk/rock/blues and yes, disco outfit that has opened for acts such as The Eagles and Phil Lesh and Friends and played at San Fran's Fillmore and Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival. They are zany and danceable and can be serious too. In addition to their two CDs, PMW has released a limited run DVD of their critically acclaimed performance of "Dark Side of the Moonshine", a bluegrass interpretation of the Pink Floyd classic album, hmmm. Expect banjos, mandolins and screaming guitars. Popular local rockabilly group The Darktown Rounders (also known as Sex Farm because its easier to remember according to one band member) breaks the ice and gets people hopping at the bar and on the dance floor in the opening act.
