Hundreds of classic and custom cars roll onto the Fairgrounds and lots of old-time rock n' roll fills the airwaves at the Second Annual Monterey Rock n' Rod Festival, with all proceeds going to the Gateway Center of Monterey County, an organization helping disabled adults. There's lots of rollickin' fun to be had at the sock hop, including a dance and best costume contest that kicks off the weekend on Friday night. The famed doo wop vocal group Little Anthony and the Imperials (with the original singer Anthony Gourdine) headlines the Saturday night show at the Pattee Arena along with Ricky Nelson Remembered, featuring Nelson's twin sons Matthew and Gunnar. Little Anthony has produced dozens of top chart hits including "Tears on My Pillow" and "Hurt So Bad." The Nelson brothers play their father's hits like "Hello Mary Lou" and "Garden Party." Many more bands play on the Garden Stage including Los High Tops, Yard Dogs, Not Fade Away, Big Sandy, His Fly Rite Boy's, etc. The grounds are open all day Saturday and most of Sunday. Tickets are available online or at the gate. [RC]
