There's probably no American road more popular than Route 66, the mythic highway that starts in the Midwest and snakes through the Southwest. Local author and photographer Elrond Lawrence, who put together the coffee table book Route 66 Railway, will discuss Route 66 and its relationship with the Santa Fe Railway, which takes a similar path across the country.
6pm. National Steinbeck Center, 1 Main St., Salinas. Free. 775-4721. http://www.steinbeck.org.
