Created by Taiwan’s U-Theatre and directed by Liu Ruo-Yu and drumming master Huang Chih-Chun, Sound of the Ocean portrays the delicate journey of a single droplet of water to the vast ocean. Five individual, but beautifully interwoven sections of actors, drummers and martial arts demonstrators reproduce the drip-drop and wish-wash sounds of water with their temple bells, gongs and big and small skinned drums. The group collectively delivers powerful and swaying rhythms with amazing technique, astonishing speed, expressive movement and striking visuals. Having performed in 120 countries, the U-Theatre’s Sound of the Ocean is a sonic landscape of memorizing performance. [SL]
