An official selection of the Sundance Film Festival, Kicking It
follows half a dozen homeless men from around the globe as they prepare to compete in the 2006 Homeless World Cup—established as a means to improve the lives of destitute persons through sports. The international players come from far-reaching plights of poverty—war-torn Afghanistan, the slums of Kenya, drug rehab facilities in Dublin, and the streets of Charlotte, North Carolina. The film, narrated by actor Colin Farrell, has been praised by the New York Times as " having its heart in the right place, if not its mind or muscles." The film kicks off the Reel Friends of the Monterey County Field Commission's annual membership drive. The screening is followed by a question and answer session with Kicking It director and editor Jeff Werner. [SK]
7pm. Lighthouse Cinemas, 525 Lighthouse Ave., Pacific Grove. $10/general; free/Reel Friends members. 372-7321, 646-0910.
