Sharing some of the same assets as the traditional holiday play--where a girl (Clara) dreams of a battle against mice and toy soldiers led by the toy nutcracker followed by scenes of dancing objects like beautiful flowers and extremely decorated gingerbread houses in the land of sweets ruled by the Sugar Plum Fairy, The Nutcracker always dazzles the audience. This time around the experienced children ballet dancers—from the Jeanne Robinson Dance Arts school in Salinas, prove that, "by children for children", is the stick-to theme here. With the exception of only a few advanced dancers, this jubilant performance is done almost completely by the talented youngsters. Indeed a very entertaining way to get into the holiday spirit. [LH]
