Anime: It's not just for geeks anymore. This three-day film festival imports a treasure chest of Japanese anime films that touch on many of the sub-genres of the art. This award-winning bunch--truly the cream--are innovative, stylized, sophisticated and imaginative. (Note: some of the fare is okay for little children, but the one called Urotsukidoji is violent and sexual beyond description). Anime voice actors, an anime character model and the former owner of Illusion On Demand sci-fi TV network will attend and talk about the brave new world they know and love and share with Monterey. (See Film story.) [WR]
6pm films begin Fri-Sun. Golden State Theatre, 417 Alvarado St., Monterey. $29/three-day pass; $20/three-day pass for students; $12/single day pass. 372-3800, 372-4555. http://www.goldenstatetheatre.com.
