David Lindsay-Abaire’s Rabbit Hole, winner of the 2007 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, tackles the grief of a couple eight months after the accidental death of their 4-year-old son. Wrenching themes of trauma, comfort, and healing are examined with tender nuance and penetrative, gentle humor. Sometimes it takes only a small puncture, a clumsy comment, or an evocative encounter to unleash a torrent of emotions. Played in an intimate studio theater, the proximity to stirring sentiment is an experience of sympathy, and ultimately compassion. Playing at the Western Stage through Oct. 19. [SK]
