“Going on the beach late at night has been a huge influence, especially when the stripping of clothes is involved and fireworks [are] in the sky,” says the L.A. based musician. In addition to good times on the waterfront, Crum cites music legends Patti Smith and Bruce Springsteen as inspiration for his raucous brand of music. Like Jet and indie fave Ben Kweller, Crum captures the raw sounds of retro-era rock with loud guitars and thumping percussion. Crum pens cleverly titled songs, including “School is for Donkeys” and complements them with a throaty delivery that would make Patti Smith proud. He’s been said to love scorching live performances and capturing the moment; and tonight Monterey County will feel the noise. [QE]
