Bay Area rapper Andre Nickatina revisits Monterey County at this Salinas stop on his Coke White tour, which we think is a new soft drink. The lanky performer tells street stories with tricky turns of phrases that few can touch. One example, delivered with breathless dexterity to a sample of Diana Ross' "Upside Down": "Look at my perm/ Cuttin' in line when it's not my turn/ That's okay cuz I pay a law firm/ One more time, b**** look at my perm." Transgressive but funky. Nickatina is joined by The Jacka, who has performed with David Banner and Freeway, so he should be able to hold his own with the Oakland rhymester. [WR]
