This fall, Big Sur's Fernwood has become home base for this county's most interesting music gatherings. Following Folk Yeah's successful Festival in the Forest, Fernwood is now the spot to take in over a dozen bluegrass acts over Friday night, Saturday and Sunday at the Big Sur Bluegrass Festival. Some highlights on the bill include the fabulously named Santa Cruz bluegrass outfit Jimmy Chickenpants, the cowboy music meets bluegrass band Lone Prairie, regional singer/songwriter Larry Hosford and Frank Wakefield, a mandolin player who played with the Grateful Dead and taught a young David Grisman to play.
